I was introduced to the Ride to Conquer Cancer a few months back.  My friend Anna works for the WA Institute for Medical Research and tells me of all the wonderful things they are doing to investigate the genetic and environmental causes of cancer that is shared globally.  This is the cause that I am supporting and will be channelling funds to.

My uncle Paddy lost his life to cancer in the last 12 months.  He joined his sister Alice who was lost when I was just a boy.  My father in law was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year.  He was one of the lucky ones though - it was found early, and he only lost one third of his lung.  His daughter was not so lucky 17 years ago when she lost her battle with leukaemia.  We all have stories like mine.  One in every two people will develop cancer during their lifetime.  This disease is a killer and we need to stop it now.

I'm doing this ride (200km) as a small effort to raise awareness and much needed funds in an effort to battle cancer.  Research takes time, money and effort.  Not all of us can be research scientists.  Most of us are born to be something else - accountants, carpenters, even subsea engineers.  However, research is fundamental to finding a way to beat this relentless disease.  We cant all be researchers, but we can all can play our part to support this vital research.  Just a few clicks of the mouse is all it takes from us to make a difference.  Easy.
