Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer

As an employee of WAIMR, I have seen how difficult it is to obtain funding for medical research. A large amount of researcher's time is spent preparing grant applications and unfortunately, many talented people who have spent years studying and becoming experts in their research field, have no option but to change careers after repeatedly being overlooked by funding bodies.

Less than 1/4 grant applications to the government Research Council are funded, despite 3/4 applications being deemed worthy of funding.

The money raised by the Ride to Conquer Cancer will free up researcher's time, allowing them to concentrate on actually doing their research, not writing grants, and to buy machines that will make them more efficient, enabling research to be done faster.

On a more personal note, I have known many people affected by cancer, sadly far too many to list here. I would like to dedicate my ride to my Pop, who beat melanoma and bladder cancer before succumbing to liver cancer in 2010. We miss you Pop.

I would like to think this ride could give hope to those with loved ones affected by cancer, that outcomes will improve for cancer patients.
