AN EPIC RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER

Support My 200km Ride to Conquer Cancer
As a guest 'POM' in Australia I have very quickly come to love this amazing country and it's people. Perth already feels like home and now it is time for me to start giving something back.
I was shocked to read a recent article which stated that 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Upon reflection perhaps it is not so surprising as I have already met too many people whose lives have been touched by this heartbreaking disease.
When I say 'heartbreaking', here's what I mean: with 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and an estimated 115,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Australia in 2011, cancer is the second leading cause of Australian deaths and affects almost 20% of the population. More than 43,600 people are expected to die from cancer in 2011.
What can WE do about it?
I'll be participating in a 2-day major cycling event benefiting the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR).
I'll be cycling with my team the 'Fat Dads' over 200 kilometres that weekend, through some of Western Australia's scenic countryside, along with many other riders. All the proceeds will go to WAIMR, Western Australia's premier adult medical research institute.
That's why I'm riding, to do something BIG about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me by supporting my fundraising efforts.
I've agreed to raise at least $2,500, but I've set my personal goal to $5,000. So here's where you come in - because I need your help to do that. Please consider making a donation of support. Every $ raised goes to WAIMR and help fund their exceptional work.
Please use the link at the top of this page to donate and together WE can work towards finding an end to this heartbreaking disease.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
Sincerely,
Rob Atkinson
