For the past couple of weeks I started to think that me doing this ride was a curse. I've heard too many stories about people recently developing cancer.
These stories have come from within my family and family friends. Its not nice to hear, but it acts as a reminder why I'm doing this ride.
One of the most touching stories someone has told me was of their mother who passed a few years back. Unfortunately it seems to be in their family because he recently lost both his sisters to the same cancer, and he had recently been diagnosed. At the time he was unable to donate, but has promised he will at a later stage. He did offer me words of encouragement and begged that I do my best to raise as much money as I can and encourage other to do the same.
This was an emotion moment for me, and him. It was our talk that made me realize that its not just the money we need. For me personally, having words of support and encouragement help remind me every time how important this is, and to ensure I do my best not just in my training, but in raising money.
This ride may not be the hardest ride I've done, but it is the most important. I've been given an opportunity to make a difference, and I'm determined to do so.
With the support we will all make a difference. I thank you all for your donations to date, and for sharing your personal stories with me. It makes me feel good knowing that what I'm doing is making a difference in peoples lives.

For those who don't know my bike is called Eva.
Given the distance I've decided to make some simple enhancements to her to get maximum benefit from my energy and to make her just that bit more comfortable of course.
I've done 2 things.
1) I've had a bike fit. This will ensure I don't cause injury to my self through regular riding. Measurements taken and Eva adjusted to suit my height and reach abilities.
2) From the bike fit I made some changes to Eva. They include the 3 items.
New Saddle (seat)
New Stem (shorter)
Spaces for my pedals....because I have duck feet and they stick out so much.
All this and Eva rides like a dream :)
