As you may or may not know my wife, mother to Jasmine (6) and Jamie (4), Vickey died of Melanoma on the 4th of January 2011. When she was diagnosed the cancer was very advanced. From diagnosis to her passing was only 16 weeks!!! Oh My God most of you will say but yes it is that an aggresive and fast a disease it is crazy!!!

Melanoma is one of the most agressive forms of Cancer there is and currently there is no cure for it nor test. Vickey did not respond to Chemo and Radiation so as a last ditch hope we tried to get onto the clinical trials of drugs and treatements that they are trialing to find a cure. The Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR), is the body in WA who does all of these clinical trials and does the reasearch in the hope of finding a cure for this horrific form of cancer and many many more types. This is the Institue who will get 100% of  the money that you donate in sponsorship for me to do this ride.

I know that nearly all of you would in some way or another have been touched by cancer in your life and it is not till you lose a loved one do you realise that we have cures for other disiease, we can send a man to the moon but yet we still have no cure for Cancer. How can this be?

This is the reason that I need you to donate so that we can find a cure maybe not today or tomorrow but some day in the future so that when our kids are grown up there is a cure for Melanoma. Here in Australia we spend so much time outside in the sun that all of us are at risk of contracting this disease and it is not until you have it do you realise it is to late.

My reasoning behind doing this epic 200km bike ride is yes it is to late for my wife to be saved but my kids have a 50% chance of having a genetic disposition to this disease. That is my worst night mare (as is it any parents) so with your money hopefully the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research can come up with a test to find out if they have this disposition and a cure if they do. Now some of you reading this may be from overseas but by donating you can still help your loved ones as the clinical trials of these drugs and tests are global clinical trials.

Now some of you maybe cyclists as well and if you are that is great and if you believe you can raise the money to do this ride then I would be more than happy for you to join me on my team to do this epic ride from Perth to Mandurah and back so we can do this awesome thing together.

Now one more thing you need to know is that as soon as you donate money the funds are sent to WAIMR instantly so if you donate money now they get the money now not in October. So please donate the size of your donation doesn't matter just by donating you will know that you have helped to save someones life and that someone could be a loved one of yours.

Now I am going to ask you for one more favour if you can please forward my email or the hyper link to this webpage to every single person in your email contacts list it would be greatly appreciated becuase if they do it again and again and everyone donates $5.00 or $10 or $100.00 or how ever much you wish to my goal of raising $25000.00 will be a dream come true!!!
